Body Planes – Planes Of The Body – Sagittal Planes, Transverse Planes And Frontal Planes

In this video we discuss the planes of the body. We cover the 3 major body planes, sagittal planes, frontal or coronal planes, and transverse planes, and we also look at oblique planes.

Body planes – planes of the body
A plane is an imaginary flat surface. Often times the body is sectioned or cut along a surface or plane, which is referred to as a body plane. An unlimited number of sections can be made along an unlimited number of planes. When a section of the body or an organ is cut, it is named after the plane which it occurs.
There are 3 major body planes, sagittal planes, coronal or frontal planes and transverse planes.
Sagittal planes run from the top of the body to the bottom and run from the front to the back. Sagittal planes divide the body into left and right sections. If a sagittal plane runs down the midline of the body and divides the body into equal halves it is called a midsagittal plane.
Coronal or frontal planes run side to side and top to bottom. These planes divide the body into anterior and posterior sections.
Transverse planes run side to side and front to back. These planes divide the body into upper and lower sections. These planes are sometimes called horizontal planes.
Since we have an infinite number of possible planes, and ways to draw planes, any plane that is not a sagittal, coronal or transverse plane is described as an oblique plane. So, we can draw a plane like this, which goes side to side, but also runs slightly up and down and slightly front to back. This is an oblique plane.

2023 Mazda CX-50 revealed with hybrid version on the way

2023 Mazda CX50 revealed with hybrid version on the way.
Mazda USA already had a compact crossover in the CX5, but the ZoomZoom company believes there’s room for one more. Meet the CX50, a larger family hauler serving as a more spacious offering in the same way as the CX30 slots above the CX3. It adopts the sharp styling we’ve come to expect from the Japanese brand, even though the company claims it’s a completely new vehicle.
It’s set to enter production in January 2022 at the new Huntsville, Alabama plant built together with Toyota. As with all CX models going forward, the CX50 is going to be offered with standard allwheel drive. In the beginning, it will be sold only with conventional gasoline engines, namely a naturally aspirated 2.5liter unit or a turbocharged mill with the same displacement. Both will be linked to a sixspeed automatic transmission.
Further down the line, a hybrid CX50 will follow, but it’s unclear when it will arrive during the compact crossover’s life cycle. We do know it’s going to feature a “traditional hybrid” setup, which likely means it won’t be a mild hybrid or a plugin hybrid. Mazda promises that additional details about the electrified model will be announced in due course.
The CX50 is being marketed as a more ruggedlooking alternative to the CX5 thanks to the chunky plastic body cladding on the square wheel arches, while the addition of a roof rack accentuates the crossover’s outdoorsy nature. The company claims it has reinforced the Bpillars and door jambs, along with adding a panoramic moonroof, making its debut on a Mazda product.
It’s worth noting the CX50 is kickstarting an SUV onslaught as CX60, CX70, CX80, and CX90 models will follow on a new rearwheeldrive platform with inlinesix gasoline and diesel engines developed with electrification in mind. These will come in mildhybrid and PHEV configurations, with the tworow CX70 and threerow CX90 coming to the US with wider bodies. Their equivalent narrowbody siblings, CX60 and CX80, are earmarked for Europe. All four are slated to hit the market within the next two years.
